Just a small town boy with a voice and a dream: that pretty much sets the stage for solo performer Timmy Pierce. A native of Hartsville, South Carolina music and the arts has always played a role in his life. Even at the age of 4 when he began dancing with a local studio “Dance World.”
It was at this early stage in life that his father placed a microphone in his hand and his love for singing continued to grow. His first performance as dictated in a picture on his debut album “Dreamchaser” was at the local “Center Theater” in front a capacity crowd. He continued performing throughout his early years with the help of “Brenda Cranford School of Dance.” Junior high brought out another side of the musical world to Timmy. It was here that he began playing his first instrument the alto saxophone.
He would continue to play the saxophone throughout high school and well into college, playing in numerous bands and ensembles. Well rounded is quite the understatement in describing his childhood. From sports to an all male a capella group, his involvement was quite diverse. It was in high school that he decided to pick up his dad’s old guitar. With a little help from dad to learn a few chords, Timmy learned his first song “Last Kiss.”
His strong Christian faith allowed Timmy to quickly begin writing his first songs. From this it lead him into his first band “Common Youth.” The group enjoyed much success in its short life; playing venues, and churches all over the region. His musical abilities continued to blossom in college as he became a music education major at the University of South Carolina. He was a part of many ensembles and organizations including the university chorus, “Sound Check” (an all male a capella group), Kappa Kappa Psi (National honorary fraternity for college bandmembers), Baptist College Ministry praise band, as well as clinician for the award winning Lewisville High School Marching Band.
Timmy also has several theatrical experiences included in his resume. His “off-off-off-off Broadway debut” began in high school when he was given the lead role of “Finch” in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” He continued on to star as “Japheth” in “Two by Two” in a local community production. Timmy’s last performance was as the lead role of “Max” in the Florence Little Theatre’s production of “Lend Me a Tenor” in which he later received an award from the local guild for “best actor” for this performance.
In 2007, Timmy decided to enter “corporate America.” However, he continued to keep up with his passion for music. He teamed up with an old friend Arty Capell to form an acoustic duo called “Hartsville.” The duo enjoyed much local success. It was here that he found a true love for the acoustic sound and performance.
Upon realizing moving from cubicle to cubicle and “corporate America” just wasn’t his thing, Timmy continued to perfect his solo acoustic performance. And in 2008 he began his career with Carnival Cruise Lines as a solo artist aboard the Carnival Holiday. The next five years he spent performing on numerous vessels throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean. In his last two years with Carnival he was recognized as one of the top performers with the cruise line. This gave him the opportunity to perform on the inaugural voyages of several new vessels including the Carnival Magic and the Carnival Breeze. It was here that the “barefoot guitarist” was truly born in the laid back Caribbean vibe as the first ever performer in Carnival’s newest branded spaces the Red Frog Pub, Red Frog Rum Bar, and the Blue Iguana Tequila Bar.
It was during that time that Timmy released his first full professional solo album entitled “Dreamchaser.” With the help of Greg Dampier (A Nashville Studio Artist) and Kevin Smith producing at Six + One Studios, album provides the listener with a variety of musical genres however keeping that acoustic flavor. The album is still available on Amazon (digital download) and iTunes (digital download).
The summer of 2013 brought another change of direction in Timmy’s musical career. Relocating to the coast of South Carolina and leaving ship life behind, he teamed up with Songbyrd Productions an entertainment agency located along the grand strand. The “summer barefoot tour” included over 80 plus shows throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Kansas in just a few months.
It is Timmy’s belief that his career would not be possible without the love and support of God, his family and friends, and certainly you the fans. Without you, none of these dreams would even be possible. Many thanks to all of you and may God Bless!
Timmy continues to play many venues in and around his new home in Myrtle Beach, SC as well as many live web shows on stageit.com. Please check the schedule often for new date
